Week 12 Blog Post

This week I decided to use the song "What's My Name" by Snoop Dogg. This song is very interesting not my typical style but I like it because the music is almost like a funk or pop and then the lyrics are old school rap. Snoop Dogg is an idol in the rap community and I have lots of respect for him. The music in this song reminds me of a retro video game like pacman or something. To be honest I was not a fan of the lyrics they were boring but the music is what made this song good.

Week 11 Blog Post

This week I decided to use the song "Born in the USA" by Bruce Springsteen. This is one of the most iconic songs I can think of and one of my favorites. This song gives me big 4th of July vibes. I love this song one because I love the USA and two because it's Bruce Springsteen. Like how can you not like Bruce. My favorite thing is his voice. He has like a raspy kind of voice and I think it goes perfectly with the music of the song. This song can be easily misunderstood though. Lots of people think it's just about patriotism. Originally it was different music and a different tone he used in his voice about a vietnam war veteran returning home with no option. He later changed it to the loud music and almost screaming for joy voice.

week 9 blog post

This week I had to pick "Hotel California" by The Eagles. Like how do you not pick this song. It is an all time classic and will forever be one of the best songs ever. This song uses the electric guitar to perfection. The guitar just goes so well with the mood of the song as well as the lyrics. This song is easily the most famous song the Eagles ever put out. It has one of the all time best guitar solos. The eagles described the song as their "interpretation of the high life".  This song has had multiple covers but the original will forever be the best.

week 8 blog post

This week I picked the song "the sound of silence" by Simon and Garfunkel. Honestly when I first turned it on I was surprised because the version I had of this song was by a group called "Disturbed" which is more of a rock version. This song originally was in no way rock but more of an actual pop song. I've always been a fan of this song and somehow never knew that the one I listened to was not the original. When asked about the song Garfunkel said its meaning is "the inability of people to communicate with each other, not particularly internationally but especially emotionally, so what you see around you are people unable to love each other." I never had any idea that this song had so much meaning but I am glad I got to learn more about this song this week.

Week 7 Blog Post

This week I picked the song "Yesterday" by the beatles. I had to pick this one because 1. I love the Beatles and 2. This is one of my favorite songs by them. One of the lines says "yesterday, all my troubles seemed so far away" I love that line because that's how I feel when I have an exam lol. The lyrics to me sound like hiding from reality until the tail end. Yesterday is sort of a safeplace in the song where there is no worries in the world. This song is good in so many ways between the lyrics and the music that goes hand in hand with the lyrics. This song will forever be one of my favorites.

Week 5 Blog Post

This week I picked the song "hey good lookin" by Hank Williams. The song is Hank singing to a girl who he obviously is attracted to and really asking her to go on a date with him. I really liked this song because the lyrics are really good and the music backs it up with a nice beat. At the beginning of the song he is really asking for just a date but by the end he is asking for them to be exclusive. He says in the song "how about keeping steady company". I really liked this song because it was that OG country type of song. The song got introduced into the grammy hall of fame in 2001.

Week 4 Blog Post

This week I picked the song "Taking a Chance on Love" by Benny Goodman. To me this song sounds like someone who was in love and after it didn't work out was scared to love again but the song is about him taking a different chance on love. It a very happy love song with lots of hope in the lyrics. the word "Again" is used a lot in the lyrics as if life starts again with love. My favorite version of this song is actually the Frank Sinatra version. The song was originally introduced by Ethel Walters but the cover version by Benny was the one to hit number 1 on the charts.
